Federal ridings with large Muslim populations Print E-mail
Written by Darcey
Thursday, 06 December 2007

The Canadian Islamic Congress as we all know has filed a Human Rights complaint against Macleans magazine for publishing an excerpt from Mark Steyn's book America Alone. One of the issues they have a problem with is how Steyn paints the changing demographics in Europe and the speculation that power will shift to the Islamists.

The Canadian Islamic Congress says the context of the article breeds fear and is Islamaphobic. The funny thing is they know damn well themselves about the power of demographics as they keep track of Muslim populations in Canada and plan accordingly.

Prior to the 2004 elections the Canadian Islamic Congress issued a report (Elections 2004: Towards Informed and Commited Voting - pdf ) to their members. They had recognized their new found political clout due to changing demographics (example - second largest voting bloc in Ottawa) from compiled census data and noted that Muslims represented a swing vote in 101 electoral districts.

The Canadian Islamic Congress graded each of the 301 elected MP's according to various domestic and international issues which included closer ties to Muslim countries, review's of the anti-terrorism legislation and getting rid of security certificates. Members were urged to vote for those with the highest grade.

Screen shot from the report:

Every Conservative MP got an F.

So on one hand the Canadian Islamic Congress denounces the fear-mongering of demographic data compiled in a book but on the other hand they use it themselves to further their own Islamic agendas.

::

Heh - Mark Steyn on Steynaphobia:

Maybe they'll be benign, maybe they'll be not so. I think we should be allowed to discuss the consequences of the Islamification of western nations. But many Muslim lobby groups want to prevent any discussion at all - even though the very same plaintiffs suing over my analysis of the political consequences of Muslim demographics in the west themselves make explicit use of Muslim demographics to further their political goals.

Interesting. Notice #4,our pal Steffi, who voted against extending terrorist laws in exchange for Bain's delegates to take the liberal leadership.

Wayne, Elsie of Saint John New Brunswick - Conservative Party was one of 6 CPC runners who received an A. Are you saying that none of those 6 were elected?

Not only are these people dangerous and irresponsible for issuing such unscientific propaganda, they're nuts.

"....many of CIC?s friends have supported this research project financially...." Wonder how many A's contributed to this flawed research.

On their website they note this report was part of a plan to achieve 'smart integration'.

JMR - I'm not saying that people listened simply because the CIC doesn't represent every single Muslim I'm just pointing out that they tried, and put a lot of work into it.

no surprise here, really.

for instance, the tamil community in scarborough has long been able to whip (some allege pistol-whip) its vote for the fiberals.

it's why the so many liberal pols are willing to risk public approbation over kissing up to the tamil tigers... the huge tamil voting bloc in scarberia gets them re-elected.

look for more islamic candidates as these people get their shit together.

You know what is nutty? I am pretty sure I was a few years behind the CIC lawyer in Nova Scotia high school. Here is his CV. And if I can recall a 1978 talent show correctly he may have been the guy who ripped a wicked drum along to "Tow The Line". Nice guy as I recall and, a little oddly, I might have thought a Truro Nova Scotian with the last name of Joseph would be more likely a Lebanese Christian. But we had plenty of middle eastern families in our town with all different backgrounds back then (one good buddy of mine's family was Egyptian) so what do I know.

How fortunate for you that Catholics won't sue you for pointing that out.

Darcey, obviously it does and you're missing the point. If Catholics can do it, why not Muslims? Also, your new picture is awful. I thought you were First Nations, but it makes you look like a total pale-face. In fact, you look a bit like Michael Stipe, of all things. Change it quick.

There is no who can't or who can it is who did. Would some Catholic advocacy group sue Macleans magazine for writing about Catholic demographics? I doubt it.

That pic has been around along time but for you, well, I may just investigate my archives and come up with painted face or pounding mocs

Thanks, Darcey, for the painted face and pounding mocs, though I'd be more worried about correcting the looking-like-Michael-Stipe thing.

And, who knows, the Catholics are going after Philip Pullman to the death. There's a whole continent-wide Catholic conspiracy to suppress "The Golden Compass". Maybe they'll turn their guns on the Muslims next. And where will they stop? Their Pope wants to ban rock n' roll, after all.

Well, yes, they shut down any Catholics who want to read the book via the Catholic system. Quash internal descent, then turn your eyes outward.

Though its not just the internal debate they're out to influence. They're trying to get stuff out into the wider world about Pullman etc. Lying about stuff he's said etc.

Blogs are getting worse and worse all the time, because of assnuts like "bigcitylib" here. His "point" (that non-muslims keep track of polls) is irrelevant and nonsensical. Any intelligent and/or considerate person knows that. His comments are ridiculous ("The Catholic Church is going after Phillip Pullman TO THE DEATH").

She/he has no interest in serious discussion, you demean yourself by engaging with such a moron, and casual readers will quickly tune out after realizing they're wasting more of their precious time dealing with the disruptive nonsense of people like that.

Actually, there was one Conservative MP who got an A (the only one who didn't get an F, it would seem): Rahim Jaffer. Let's take a wild guess as to why.

Also very interesting that Dion's riding is #4 in the nation for the Muslim population at 10.9% - perhaps this could explain part of his infuriating stance (or lack of one) on the war in Afghanistan?

I had an argument with a friend (now ex-friend I guess since according to him I'm a "complete bigot") who said it's paranoid to make "a big deal" about Muslim immigration.

Besides claiming that it wouldn't make any difference if Canada was 90% Muslim (!), "as long as they live by Canadian standards," he pointed out that there are proportionately very few Muslims now anyway.

Granted (although I wouldn't say "very few"). I think his thinking is typical here. Especially since I live in Winnipeg.

However, it's plain to see, from the Canadian Islamic "Congress"'s own stats, that there are significant minorities in a number of key ridings. 10-14%s in 6 Ontario ridings (and rising), including that of a would-be PM who's already a politically correct left-wing squib.

And Muslims are not all guaranteed to vote en masse either, but as anyone who ever watches the news should know, we're not dealing with very rational people here. All it takes is one exaggerated report about one allegedly anti-Islamic comment and politicians will be fighting amongst them selves to see who can suck off the resident imam the longest, and grovel, Koran in hand, to the nearest Mosque to beg forgiveness, with Mansbridge and Renaldo and all the other excuses-for-journalists trying to get as many ratings as they can out of all the rampant "Islamophobia".

In such an environment, 10% of the vote belonging to an irrational and highly volatile cult could swing an election.

From the link provided by Sue above: "The Danforth area [of East York] is a part of a very nice muslim community."

I guess they mean that it HAS a "very nice" muslim community (I guess they mean quantity, not quality) and not really that it's PART OF The House of Peace. Or perhaps it's just wishful thinking on the part of the writer...

I guess the Beaches area is not so great for the young Son or Daughter of The Prophet over here studying Nuclear Physics: "

"The Beaches is nice as well...but with less muslims."

Don't worry Abdul, just wait, just wait. Come back in 20 years and live happily under Sharia, Inshallah!

I had a similar conversation with a Jewish girl (early 20s) at the U of M, who, BTW, was campaigning for the Conservatives and was very pro-Israel, and she also wondered what the big deal was about Muslim immigration. "After all, they're all gonna be assimilated to our way of life."

She admitted that she was creeped out when she travelled through Europe one summer, and she thought that Israel was "doomed" because of the Demographic Time Bomb (i.e. Israeli and Palestinian Muslims having more children than Israeli Jews), but not to worry, "things will be different in Canada, "because we're more tolerant and open-minded."

Dumb as a plank.

There sre some very large Liberal voting blocks in Canada.

Caution, are you sure?

One massive Liberal vote bank consists of Delta, Surrey and Richmond districts near Vancouver, made up of Pakistan, India and Persian heritage.

Nothing wrong with that I guess, just that I suspect this big L power block is unknown in Eastern Canada. = TG
