I did not know that tyrant Mugabe had been knighted back in 1994, but even more unbelievable is that only now is he being stripped of his title. Violence, famine and inflation is certainly nothing new in Zimbabwe.

The Associated Press LONDON - The Queen has stripped Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe of his honorary knighthood.

The highly unusual move is meant to show Britain's displeasure over alleged human rights abuses by Mugabe's administration. The Queen acted Wednesday on the advice of British Foreign Secretary David Miliband.

Miliband says Mugabe should have the honour revoked because of widespread violence and intimidation of Zimbabwe's opposition ahead of a presidential run-off vote scheduled for Friday.

Christ almighty! Is there no integrity left in this world, pols or royals give out honours based on the PC perceptions of the day, with NO thought to the character of the person to whom they're giving the "honour".

Mugabe, IMHO, would never have received anything other than "Asshole of the Month" or "Butcher of the Decade".

But the Queen Knighted him! What a bad, bad, joke! smilies/angry.gif

What I find more than annoying is the ongoing crap that MAYBE Mugabe is not a nice guy. ANC is saying "wow, golly, gee, we are a bit disappointed in Mugabe". The documentation of Mugabe's brutality is historical and legion. I guess one needs to ask "where's the money?" aside from in the greasy pockets of Mugabe and cronies. Someone is getting richer by the day because of the misery of the people of "zimbabwe" or whatever the F they wanna call it. They fool no one and I am fed up with the UN's wishy washy commentary on things like Rawanda, Uganda, Somalia, Zimbabwe, etc. et al. Murder is murder.
