Would you like to see the Pope on the end of a rope do you think he's a fool? Print E-mail

Modern liberalism 101:

In our personal lives and in our communities, we encounter a hostility, something dangerous; a poison which threatens to corrode what is good, reshape who we are and distort the purpose for which we have been created. - Pope Benedict XVI (Telegraph)

I believe they call it freedom without moral boundries.

"Freedom without moral boundries" is modern liberalism.

...is that what you are saying? I am reading that you are considering the Pope is the example of modern liberalism but that makes my brain rattle.

The 81-year-old leader of the Catholic church said there were signs indicating "something is amiss" in modern society.

Referring to consumerism and the lure of "false idols", he said: "In our personal lives and in our communities, we encounter a hostility, something dangerous; a poison which threatens to corrode what is good, reshape who we are and distort the purpose for which we have been created."

I read it as the summing up of '"something is amiss" in modern society' as modern liberalism 101.

Yes Pope Benny XVI is a giant fool ..... trying to be all things to all people ... he's been playing identity politics as if the papacy was some kind of popularity contest. He softplays morality issues and trumpets populist liberal crap as if he were an Anglican Bishop. He jumped on the enviromentalism bandwagon like a college freshman trying to impress the cool kids. He's a simp from the German /Euro pool of modern socialist utopian jackassery.

For all the outcry about his conservative stance on many issues at least JP II came from a real working background and knew what a socialist totalitarian state does by nature.

This clown has not a clue and will do no good in this world from the papal throne.

If you check out his whole homily it seems his talk about the environment and non-violence is in reference to the Bible's claim that the Earth itself felt the damage of human sin in the world. Which, if we wanted to start messing with the enviro-commies heads we could tell them to repent for the good of the forests.

Unless I'm mistaken, the Telegraph has taken one or two sentences out of context and turned the Pope into an activist. He has a great paragraph in there about relativism and freedom without moral absolutes:

There is also something sinister which stems from the fact that freedom and tolerance are so often separated from truth. This is fuelled by the notion, widely held today, that there are no absolute truths to guide our lives. Relativism, by indiscriminately giving value to practically everything, has made ?experience? all-important. Yet, experiences, detached from any consideration of what is good or true, can lead, not to genuine freedom, but to moral or intellectual confusion, to a lowering of standards, to a loss of self-respect, and even to despair."

For the record, I am not Catholic. smilies/smiley.gif

Ah, poor poor old Pope Benny, one of the biggest bull-shitters in the western world. I always get a good laugh when any Pope deigns to make judgements on the rest of us. Any one who's interested should study a little of Catholic history - these are baaaaaad boys. A good start is Barbara Tuchmans A Distant Mirror, an amazing study of the 1300's in Europe.

Looks like the Gore-Strong Gaia cult have a new priest hawking global collectivism (sustainability) for them...you must be of the body...individual will, western materialism is the enemy to mother earth...give yourself to the one...Gaia's will compels you. smilies/cheesy.gif smilies/cheesy.gif

I get the feeling this guy sat in on the Club of Rome sessions when they schemed up the original AGW guilt trip to advance global centralization back in 1991. He sounds heavily indoctrinated in the Gaia-sustainability dogma.

Perhaps His Popeness would care to explain, why the vatican issued a visa and a phony passport to Adolph Eichmann in 1950?
