Friday Night Blues and Beer #120 Print E-mail

5-4-3-2-1.. I'm on vacation!

The Beer: Say hello to the award winning Red Seal Ale from the North Coast Brewing Company in Fort Bragg, California. She pours a beautiful golden-amber with a big thick head that slips down into a glass covering lace. Spicy hops and herbs on the nose. An awesome sample of an American west coast brew in the lines of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale (not to be confused with the slop Saskatchewan people drink). Lots of hoppy tones baby with roasted grains and caramel and a bitter citrus followup. Awesome! Contains 5.5% alcohol and ran me around $15 Canadian for a six. Two massive thumbs up but as always get a second opinion.

The Blues: Lots of sexy hot blues divas on the show tonight but that don't mean they don't have it going on. You couple husk and sultry with grinding guitars and you get yourself a little something special. Let's get it on:

The Playlist: Big Mike Griffin (You Wouldn't Understand), Debbie Davies (Trying To Keep It Real), Ann Peebles (I Pity The Fool), Angela Brown & The Mighty 45s (Waiting For The Blues), Michele Lundeen (Song Inside Me), Stringbean & The Stalkers (Ride Of Your Life), Coen Wolters Band (Time after Time), Shirley Johnson (I'm A Fool For You), Tony Joe White (As the Crow Flies), Shemekia Copeland (Should Have Come Home), Sonny Boy Williamson (Don't Lose Your Eye), Jerry Ricks (I Will Turn Your Money Green), Sonny Moorman & The Dogs (Fast Cars, Pretty Women, and Low Down Rhythm & Blues), Mike Morgan & The Crawl (I Ain't Worried No More), Mojo Watson (Hey Little Girl), Kenny Wayne Shepherd (Born with a Broken Heart), and Jan James (Satisfy Me).

Lyrical highlight:

They say look to the future, but sometimes you gotta look back.

To see just where you've been, and keep yourself on track.

See you inside!

Gonna kick back for the most part and stay close to home, probably do some fishing and canoeing and such. I've also been eyeing up a new kayak that is calling my name.. Got a pretty decent stow-a-way for brewskies

I've had the NCB Red Seal before many moons ago when I did vendor relations with Calif. clients...it's a very approachable American Amber but distinctly Pacific north-west hopping (Cascades and Warriors if I recall)...like a deep caramel malty ale with APA hopping...drinkable...actually could be a session ale if you have the steel to chain quaff 5.5% ales without getting silly and wobbly.

Tonight I'm getting low on raiding my reserve stock and my Warsteiner dunkels are depleated, so I'm making a "frankenbeer"...mixing Wernesgrner German Pils with Kstritzer Schwarzbier to approximate a dry hoppy dunkel I call this an east block cocktail smilies/wink.gif

Drop in later to the broom barroom to jaw some.

I like the hoppy Cali stuff in moderation - like maybe one or two. I had a neighbour who liked to dish out the pale ale and they would dry me out and treat my brain the same way wine does. Head next day --> ||

My memory of last night is a little foggy. My STM is shot, far too much abuse. As soon as a bottle of liquor is opened, memory circuits go into standby, mouth circuits gear up to be obtuse.... smilies/grin.gif

Enjoy Darcey!

Being from a place where the city is right on a lake up in northern ON, I love the water.

Land of the silver birch,
Home of the beaver,
Where once the mighty moose wandered at will,
Blue lakes and rocky shores I will return once more...

smilies/smiley.gif my childhood camping song!

p.s. Shere Khan, what is STM?
Planning on quaffing a few this evening so I need to know what to protect...smilies/smiley.gif

What's a "vacation"?

You seem especially jacked up tonight, Darcey. That intro was killer. Your days off must be long overdue.

It was hotter than hades in Smithers today, and I feel like melting into the ground. I'm going to try and find a freaky dude smoking a stogey in my beer.
