Friday Night Blues and Beer #127 Print E-mail
Written by Darcey
Friday, 03 October 2008

The Beer: Say hello to a He'Brew Messiah Bold, a dark brown ale from the Shmaltz Brewing Company in New York. One of the chosen ones...She pours a deep nutty brown bordering on black with a thick creamy head that slips down into a soupy glass clinging lace. The aroma is very malty with rich coffee and chocolates. Going down she is all about fruit-tinged malts, toffee and caramels swimming in an alcoholic sea of roasted coffee beans.  She is soft in the mouth and is a pleasure to hold. Contains 5.6% alcohol and ran me around $13 Canadian for a six. Three thumbs up but as always get a second opinion

The Blues: For starters hope you enjoy the slightly longer format... On to it -- Pure beauty is in the hands of the blues beholder so smoke it if you got it cause we have a couple of dreamy vamps coming right at you laying down on top of some ass-hugging bass and then we get down to the usual groovin' business of me lovin' you - Let's get it on:

The Playlist: Karl Morgan (Your Good Man), Scott Henderson with Thelma Houston (Gittar School), Bob Malone (Highway 61 Revisited), Tottas Bluesband (Sittin' On Top Of The World), Guitar Pete Brasino (Slugger's Row), Otis Taylor (Comb Your Brown Hair), Studebaker John & The Hawks (For Lovin' You), K.T. and Midnight Cannonball (One Sweet Letter), Billy C. Farlow (Back In The Big Town), Swamp Mama Johnson (Gasoline), Jimmy Burns (Someday Baby), Jimmy Adler (Yellow Bee), Fruteland Jackson (Sitting On My Front Porch), Elliott And The Untouchables (Life Without You), Big Town Playboys (Rock Me Again), Joe Louis Walker (Uhh), Monti Amundson (Somebody's Happened To Our Love), and Danny Bryant's Red Eye Band (Bring Your Fine Self Home).

Lyrical highlight:

Music is like magic and I need this beast to be soothed

See you inside!

Another day, another 'scandal':
OTTAWA — Stephen Harper is once again facing accusations of plagiarism.

This time it’s for allegedly copying parts of a speech by former Ontario premier — and fellow Conservative — Mike Harris.

The Liberals sent out a news release today comparing lines from a speech Harris gave in December 2002, and an address by Harper in February 2003.

Some of the phrases are identical.

It’s the second ethical embarrassment for Harper in recent days.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that large parts of a speech he gave as Opposition leader in 2003 were copied from an address by then-Australian prime minister John Howard.

Harper speechwriter Owen Lippert was forced to resign over the scandal after admitting he plagiarized parts of the speech.

Blues, beer, football, and Broomers! What more could a man ask for?

Hi there everyone, I'm going back a few weeks for the beer, Russell Cream Ale for me. Until I run out. Then I don't know what--there's some Belgian beer arriving soon, so I may have to have a swig or three.

Into the Zone. We don't have to justify the blues. It's Friday night. It is a constitutional requirement. It is not a matter of opinion. It is a fact. You can have your own opinions, but you can't have your own facts.

The wind it was howling and the snow was outrageous
We chopped through the night and we chopped through the dawn
When he died I was hoping that it wasn't contagious
But I made up my mind that I had to go on.
I broke into the tomb but the casket was empty
There was no jewels no nothing I felt I'd been had
When I saw that my partner was just being friendly
When I took up his offer I must-a been mad.
