...is in far too many Canadian mirrors. It's not just, or mainly, Islamists. It's "activists". It's us: Harsha Walia is an activist, writer, researcher and facilitator who is formally trained in the law. She has been active in a variety of voluntary social justice issues over the past decade including feminist, anti racist, migrant justice, Palestine solidarity, Indigenous self-determination, anti capitalist, anti poverty, and South Asian diasporic movements. The lady wrote on Nov. 14: ...Today, I am haunted by the faces of those who are being slaughtered and murdered by ‘our boys’ in Afghanistan... I ponder the future, February 2010 to be exact, and whether Vancouverites will awaken to the reality of state-sanctioned repression by over 16,500 military, police, and security personnel in the largest security operation in Canadian history. Vancouver will be occupied by more Canadian Armed Forces troops than Afghanistan has been... There is ideology. There is ideological madness. Then there is simple sanity. Of which the dear lady is clearly deficient. Ms. Walia fears something awful will happen here. Maybe, but in reality only from certain nasty types to whom she seems happy to give a free pass whilst imagining some sort of horror involving our troops. In her city. Troops she will never see.
